If you are thinking of buying your own Falabella it is important that you take the following in to consideration:
If the answer is YES then I strongly recommend that you buy one that has been DNA tested and registered as pure. The name Falabella has become a generic term for the miniature horse, many people will say they have a Falabella or believe they have been sold one only to find that when the pedigree has been checked that there are horses on there that can not be traced back to Argentina.
If the answer is no then buy what you like, be it based on colour or character, there are many part bred Falabellas and miniature horses out there that are lovely and will most likely be cheaper as they are not as rare as Falabellas.
The British Falabella Studbook (BFS) is happy to check any pedigrees for you before you buy
It is also advisable to check the stolen horse websites before you buy this may stop you from inadvertently buying a stolen horse, which may then be taken from you at a later date, or you may be able to make some one very happy by being able to return a beloved friend to some one.

How do you find your perfect Falabella?
There are many web sites with Falabellas for sale, Take time to go through them and speak to as many breeders that you can. The BFS is also happy to offer advice. When you are looking at the photos don’t be put off by a woolly coat (horses do get them) I have been told that some people will only buy horses if they can see a photo of the horse in show condition, this is a great shame as they will be missing out on some cracking horses. Not every one has a groom to help them produce there horses in show condition for a photo and some horses live out all year so it would be cruel to clip a horse out just for a photo. Never buy your horse on a photo alone, if you find one or two that you like take the time to go and see them, a camera can lie, it is possible to use certain angles to make a horse look good and hide the not so good bits. There are also horses that are impossible to take a photo of that will do the horse justice. If when you go to see the horses that you think you might like but are unsure about anything then take some one with you that is knowledgeable about horses. There is no substitute for running your hands over a horse and seeing it move.
So you have found the horse you love what now?
There he or she is, the perfect horse, the price is right the colour is right and you want her/him now. But have you seen the paperwork? It is a legal requirement that all horses have a passport by the age of 6 months and should not be moved without one. What about the registration papers? If it does not have any then I strongly recommend that you leave a small deposit on the horse and wait for them to come through. This may take 6 weeks but a Falabella without a pedigree is just a miniature horse. I have had to deal with several people that fell into this trap and had a lot of misery trying to sort it all out.
You have your Falabella complete with the correct paperwork what now?
Just enjoy yourself but beware once you are hooked on Falabellas they are addictive.
